Financial Literacy Education

SBIN Partners have collaborated on a shared interest in bringing financial literacy to the greater community, with a focus on high school students. After hearing from community leaders, non-profits, and school district leadership, it was clear that there was a genuine need to improve students’ understanding of financial concepts and for providing financial literacy educational opportunities across the community.  Our partners called on their networks and in short order they formed a relationship with Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) to help deliver a financial literacy curriculum in Central Coast schools.  Created for grades K-12, the PwC program is called Earn Your Future™ and it was developed by PwC to provide students and educators with free and easy access to financial literacy materials suitable for use at multiple grade levels.  PwC developed this curriculum and SVP Partners have helped to provide the means to bring the curriculum to local public schools.

Thanks to a collaboration with Carpinteria High School that launched in the fall of 2016, the PwC curriculum now makes up a substantial portion of the curriculum for the economics course taught at the high school. The high school has also adopted other mechanisms for delivering financial concepts to all students at the high school. With these important milestones reached, SVPSB Partners have shifted their focus to considering expansion opportunities, both within the State of California, and nationally.  The partnership possibilities for sharing this curriculum are far-reaching.  Adult education programs, community colleges, and other education providers may be reached through the SVP International network to build new partnerships and spread Earn Your Future™ nationally.
